Most of us like a sweet treat every once in a while. Fortunately for us, dessert recipes are truly countless and there is surely a delicacy you could whip up with the ingredients you already have at home. Here are some tasty desserts that you can consider making as soon as today.

Banana pudding

If a banana is the type of food that brings you pleasure, you can think about making a banana pudding. You will need 4 large ripe bananas, 3 large eggs, 3 cups of milk, ¾ cup of sugar, ¼ cup of all-purpose flour, ¼ teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of vanilla and around 250 grams of vanilla wafers. Start by mixing the sugar, flour and salt, and whisk in the milk. Cook and stir until it’s thick and bubbly. In another bowl, you want to whisk the eggs and slowly mix them into the previous mixture. Add the vanilla. Once that is done, you can start layering your dessert – a layer of wafers, a layer of banana slices and a layer of pudding. Repeat the layers and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

Figgy apple brie tart

Maybe pies are more your style. In that case, go for the figgy apple brie tart. What you will need is 2 large apples, 1 cup of dried halved figs, 225 grams of sliced brie cheese without the rind, ¾ cup of sugar, 3 tablespoons of softened butter, and 1 refrigerated pie crust. Place the apples and figs over the sugar in an ovenproof skillet and cook on medium heat until the sugar is caramelized, for about 10 minutes. Once you remove it from the heat, top it with cheese, place the crust over it and bake in an oven until the crust is golden brown, for up to 18 minutes. Once done, carefully invert on a serving plate and serve warm.

Chocolate brownies

When looking for a classic chocolate treat, there is nothing better than brownies. Making brownies requires 270 grams of dark chocolate, 250 grams of unsalted butter, 240 grams of sugar, 60 grams of plain flour, 80 grams of cocoa powder, 2 pinches of sea salt, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 4 whole eggs. First, preheat the oven to 170 degrees C. Then, combine the salt, sugar, butter, and chocolate and microwave until fully melted. Afterward, whisk in the eggs, sift the remaining dry ingredients into the mixture, and fold to create the batter. Spread the mixture on a baking tray and bake for 15 to 20 minutes.

Blueberry-thyme pie

Did you know that blueberries are rich in antioxidants and are a great way to increase your overall well-being? In addition to 7 cups of blueberries, you will need 1 cup of granulated sugar, ¼ teaspoon of salt, ⅓ cup of uncooked quick-cooking tapioca, 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, 2 teaspoons of finely chopped thyme, 1 package of 2 refrigerated pie crusts, 2 tablespoons of coarse sanding sugar and 1 large egg white (beaten). Let the oven preheat while you mash one cup of blueberries and stir in the salt, lemon juice, and the tapioca until the tapioca dissolves. Add one more cup of blueberries and half a cup of sugar until the mixture thickens. Stir in the remaining ingredients and spoon it all into the pie crust that you’ve put into a lightly greased pie plate. Cover it all with a second pie crust, cut in a few slits to let the steam escape, and brush it with a beaten egg white. Bake until browned, allow it to cool for about 3 hours, and top slices with ice cream if you wish.

Homemade ice cream

Lastly, have you ever thought about making your own ice cream? If you have an electric ice cream maker, this will be a piece of cake. What you will need is 1 cup of buttermilk, 1 cup of heavy cream, 2 cups of half-and-half, 6 large egg yolks, 1⅓ cups and 3 tablespoons of sugar, 1 tablespoon of table salt, 2 cups of peeled and chopped black plums, 2 teaspoons of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of light corn syrup. Mix the first four ingredients and 1⅓ cups of sugar and cook over medium-low heat. Let the custard mixture cool in ice water for 2 hours, whisking from time to time. While that is cooling, you should stir together the plums, 3 tablespoons of sugar, salt and corn syrup over medium heat until the plums are tender. After 15 minutes, stir in the lemon juice and let it chill for 2 hours. Put the custard into the ice cream maker and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Do the same with the plum mixture and enjoy the creamy treat.

These five are just some of the countless dessert options you can choose from. If you can’t make up your mind, nothing is stopping you from trying them all! Bon appétit.
