Strategic partnership combines advanced flow battery technology with intelligent energy optimisation software to maximise customer returns
Allegro Energy, the Australian clean energy technology company commercialising next-generation microemulsion flow batteries, today announced a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GridSoft, a leader in intelligent energy management software, to deliver fully integrated long-duration energy storage solutions for customers across the National Electricity Market (NEM) and international markets.
The partnership brings together Allegro’s patented long-duration energy storage technology and GridSoft’s advanced optimisation platform to help businesses, industrial facilities and energy users maximise the value of battery investments while reducing energy costs and creating new revenue opportunities.
Under the agreement, the companies will collaborate to deliver turnkey battery storage solutions that combine battery sizing, software optimisation, energy market participation and asset management into a single integrated offering.
As electricity markets become increasingly complex and renewable energy penetration continues to rise, businesses are seeking energy storage systems that not only provide reliability but actively improve financial performance.
GridSoft’s integrated software platform automatically manages site load, renewable generation, battery operation, electricity market bidding and battery health, ensuring customers achieve the highest possible return on investment while maintaining operational simplicity.
Allegro’s patented microemulsion flow battery technology is designed specifically for long-duration energy storage applications, providing safe, scalable and flexible solutions capable of storing energy for extended periods and supporting businesses through periods of high demand, volatile pricing and grid instability.
“Time and time again our customers tell us that any battery system must support their primary business. This partnership is a key part of supporting that commercial case,” said Dr Thomas Nann, CEO and Co-Founder of Allegro Energy.
By combining Allegro’s long-duration flow battery technology with GridSoft’s intelligent optimisation platform, Nann said, they were creating a solution that allows customers to focus on running their operations while the battery system automatically works in the background to reduce costs, optimise energy usage and unlock additional revenue streams.
Matt Connolly, Managing Director of GridSoft, said the partnership creates a powerful combination of hardware and software innovation.
“Innovative software and long duration batteries are a natural fit. Together, they give customers better control of their energy assets and the tools to make the most of battery flexibility, optimising both business performance and returns on their investment,” Connolly said.
The announcement comes at a time when demand for long-duration energy storage is accelerating globally. As Australia continues its transition toward renewable energy, energy storage systems capable of delivering power over many hours are becoming increasingly important for maintaining reliability and capturing the full value of renewable generation.
The need is also being amplified by the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and data centres. AI workloads require enormous amounts of electricity, often around the clock, creating demand profiles that cannot be met by short-duration batteries alone. Long-duration energy storage enables renewable energy generated during periods of surplus production to be shifted across the day and night, helping data centres and large industrial users maintain reliable, low-cost and low-emissions power supplies.
The partnership will focus on helping customers identify the optimal battery configuration for their operations while ensuring assets are operated in a way that maximises economic value, extends battery life and enhances energy resilience.
As electricity systems worldwide move toward higher shares of renewable generation, the companies believe integrated solutions that combine advanced storage technologies with intelligent software will play a critical role in enabling a more reliable, flexible and affordable energy future.
For organisations exploring battery storage opportunities, Allegro Energy and GridSoft will provide a streamlined pathway from assessment and system design through to deployment, optimisation and ongoing performance management.
