The City of Gold Coast is looking for unique, innovative ideas from businesses that will continue to enhance the city’s services for residents and create opportunities for the future.
A new Enhance Gold Coast online portal launched this week to capture innovative commercial proposals made by the private sector to deliver a project, or provide services and goods that benefit Australia’s fastest growing city.
Mayor Tom Tate said innovative proposals were an opportunity for the City of Gold Coast and the private sector to engage in a manner that allows both parties to address the needs of the city.
“We are dedicated to collaborating with a range of industries to help us discover and implement innovative projects that are beneficial to our community and the future of the Gold Coast,” Mayor Tate said.
“The Gold Coast has an entrepreneurial focus and we are on the lookout for unique proposals that will benefit our infrastructure, parklands, open spaces, environment, community facilities and lifestyle.
“As the fastest growing city in Australia and the country’s second largest council we have a vast number of opportunities to explore through market-led proposals.
“We are committed to driving economic growth and facilitating major investments that make the Gold Coast the best city in Australia to invest, live, work and visit.”
Economy.id data highlights that the Gold Coast economy continues to grow faster than state and national economies with a growth rate from 2021 to 2023 of 12.4%, compared to national growth over this period of 7.5%. Growth is expected to continue in 2024.
Trade in the city is rapidly expanding with strong demand in international exports of high-end manufacturing, accommodation and food, arts/entertainment and retail, which were boosted in 2022 to $3 billion, $1.6 billion, $1.5 billion and $1.1 billion respectively.
There is also an important focus on increasing technology investment in advanced manufacturing businesses and associated fields.
The Enhance Gold Coast portal will provide a single channel with a clear, consistent and transparent process for businesses to submit their proposals.
For an innovative proposal to be successful it should showcase a unique and/or innovative solution to a problem, address an opportunity or enhance city services. It must align with the City’s strategic objectives, outline how it benefits the city and clearly demonstrate how it offers value for money.
The applicant would need to prove that the proposal can contribute to local business and industry, include environmental protection measures and embody ethical behaviour and fair dealing.
