Plastic is one of the biggest waste problems with Australians consuming approx. 3.4 million tonnes of plastic annually, and only is 13% effectively recycled. Despite a 57% rise in Australian recycling rates over the last 15 years, the issues persist as our growing population continues to create waste.

Precious Plastic Melbourne (PPM) a social start-up on a mission to empower everyday Aussies in the war on plastic waste, has developed a revolutionary approach to plastic recycling. Through their easy-to-use countertop recycling machines and technologies, PPM equips schools, businesses and community groups across Australia to actively combat plastic pollution, transforming waste into valuable new products.

As part of their efforts to create impactful change in Australia, PPM is empowering the next generation of changemakers at schools across the country focused on workshops and supplying benchtop, easy to use machinery.

In addition they work to set up micro-recycling communities and educating students about plastic recycling, making it fun and easy for teachers and community leaders. They have now equipped over 50 schools across Australia with micro-recycling machinery and directly engaged 1,900+ students in environmental education.

As you know, many plastics can’t be recycled via industrial facilities, which is why micro-recyclers can play such a critical role in tackling the plastic waste crisis within their own communities. PPM provides the tools and knowledge to equip individuals and groups to recycle traditionally tricky-to-recycle plastics, and turn them into something valuable, not only creating high-value outcomes for waste, but also resulting in less plastic winding up in landfill and our oceans.

PPM are encouraging teachers and school educators to get in contact with them at info@plastic.org.au for more information on how they and their school can get involved.
