BLOOMS THE CHEMIST CELEBRATES 130TH STORE MILESTONE

Blooms The Chemist has celebrated a major national milestone of reaching 130 stores in the network, with the opening of Blooms The Chemist Douglas.

As part of the local community for over a decade, the Douglas pharmacy recently joined the Blooms network, strengthening its ability to deliver high-quality expert care.

Blooms The Chemist Douglas Pharmacist-owner Amanda Baker said that shared values around environmental responsibility was one of the primary factors in their decision to join the Blooms network.

“Being part of a network that not only supports business growth but also actively champions sustainability was incredibly important to us. Our Douglas team is passionate about the environment, through participating in initiatives such as Pharmacycle and Clean Up Australia Day,” Ms Baker said.

An opening day event was held at Blooms The Chemist Douglas, bringing the local community together to celebrate the pharmacy’s new chapter as part of the network.

Coinciding with Clean Up Australia Day (1 March 2026), the event underscored the brand’s commitment to community wellbeing and focus on sustainability.

The Open Day featured a range of family-friendly activities including face painting, a colouring-in competition and goodie bags for attendees. The store also hosted a sausage sizzle to help raise funds for Angel Paws, a local charity that helps rehome displaced animals.

Community members were able to receive free blood pressure and blood glucose testing, reinforcing Blooms’ ongoing focus to provide accessible healthcare services.

“We are honoured to be recognised as the 130th Blooms pharmacy store in the network and to have the opportunity to celebrate this with our loyal community on our Open Day,” continued Ms Baker.

“It was wonderful to see our team and community members come together on this momentous occasion and enjoy the variety of activities, competitions and freebies.”

In addition to offering Pharmacycle, a program that enables customers to recycle empty blister packs, the pharmacy separates all recyclable waste and regularly purchases soft plastic recycling boxes from TerraCycle to responsibly manage packaging materials received in-store.

Pharmacycle’s Account Manager for Blooms The Chemist, Ursi Kernan said the partnership with Blooms The Chemist Douglas demonstrates how local pharmacies can lead meaningful environmental change.

“Community pharmacies play a vital role not only in healthcare delivery but also in reducing environmental impact,” said Ms Kernan.

“Blooms The Chemist Douglas has shown genuine leadership in sustainability, embedding recycling initiatives into everyday practice and making it easy for customers to participate. Their commitment sets a strong example for pharmacies across Australia.”

Blooms The Chemist’s unique ownership model brings together profit and purpose, supporting pharmacy owners to build a successful and thriving pharmacy aligned with a shared vision.

This significant milestone reflects Blooms The Chemist’s continued investment in empowering Pharmacist-owners, providing expert care to local communities and improving overall health outcomes of Australians.
