The British Council has today opened applications for its Alumni UK Grant Programme, offering UK alumni in Australia up to £5,000 ($9,600 AUD) to turn climate action ideas into reality. The call comes as Australia holds the Presidency of COP31 Negotiations, with this year’s Australian grants focused exclusively on Climate Action and Sustainability.
Alumni of UK educational institutions who have an idea or initiative they feel will create positive change in their community are encouraged to apply, with grants supporting innovative, impactful and collaborative projects led by international UK alumni.
Projects can be a new initiative or the scaling of an existing one, with applicants encouraged to welcome it as an opportunity to turn ideas into action. Anyone who has studied (for at least one term) at a UK institution is eligible to apply. Projects should:
- Deliver clear and measurable impact
- Introduce innovative or creative approaches
- Encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing
- Can be implemented within 5-6 months.
The British Council’s Alumni UK Grant Programme is designed to empower UK alumni living overseas to lead innovative, high-impact projects that deliver measurable benefits to their communities, sectors, or networks. By providing targeted financial support, strategic guidance, and opportunities for knowledge exchange, the programme aims to strengthen alumni leadership, foster collaboration across countries, and showcase exemplary initiatives.
