Cummins, a global leader in power technology, is introducing its new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to the Australian market at All-Energy Australia 2025.
The system represents a key step in Cummins’ Destination Zero
strategy, the company’s roadmap to achieving net-zero emissions across its products and operations.
The BESS has been designed to deliver reliable, resilient, and sustainable energy for commercial and industrial applications, with seamless integration into Cummins’ existing portfolio of generators, renewable energy systems, and microgrid controls.
System Capabilities and Design
Cummins’ BESS offers a fully integrated AC-output solution that supports the nation’s accelerating energy transition.
The system is engineered for performance across Australia’s diverse environments, operating efficiently within a temperature range of –20°C to +50°C, and providing robust energy solutions for both on-grid and off-grid applications.
Key capabilities include:
- Off-grid and backup power for remote and regional operations, including mining and industrial sites.
- Renewable shifting, enabling storage of excess solar and wind energy for later use.
- Peak shaving and energy arbitrage, helping businesses reduce grid dependency and operational costs.
- Support for decarbonisation, assisting industries to transition toward lower emissions.
Technical Specifications
The BESS platform is available in six scalable configurations, ranging from 100 kW/200 kWh to 1 MW/2 MWh, with both two-hour and four-hour storage options.
Each system is housed in 10-foot or 20-foot ISO containers for ease of transport and plug-and-play installation.
Core technologies and safety features include:
- Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry, offering long cycle life, thermal stability, and safety in industrial environments.
- Liquid cooling system to maintain performance in high-temperature conditions and extend system lifespan.
- Integrated fire suppression and safety systems compliant with AS/NZS and IEC standards.
- Advanced controls capable of managing multiple Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), including solar PV, diesel or gas gensets, and grid power.
Benefits for Australian Applications
The Cummins BESS provides a flexible energy storage platform suited to Australia’s unique operating environments.
It enables users to:
- Store renewable energy for later use or during peak demand periods.
- Improve grid resiliency and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
- Optimise energy usage and reduce emissions without compromising performance.
These attributes position the BESS as a practical solution for industries such as mining, utilities, transport, and manufacturing, where reliability and uptime are critical.
Integration and Support
Cummins’ BESS is part of a broader suite of new energy solutions, which includes:
- Solar generation and hybrid systems
- Hydrogen fuel cell technology
- Microgrid and energy management controls
All systems are factory-tested, fully integrated, and supported by Cummins’ national service and distribution network, ensuring long-term reliability and technical support across Australia.
Cummins at All-Energy Australia 2025
Cummins will showcase the BESS at Stand KK151 at All-Energy Australia 2025, held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on 29–30 October 2025.
