Fatal House Fire Claims Life in Springvale
A man has died following a house fire in Springvale early this morning, with emergency services responding to reports of black smoke issuing from a weatherboard home at 29 Nullawil Street, Springvale 3171.
At approximately 7:10am on Friday 27 June 2025, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) and CFA firefighters were dispatched to the scene after multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a fire. Upon arrival, crews found the 10-metre by 15-metre home ablaze, with thick smoke visible from the street. Firefighters quickly began efforts to contain the fire and successfully knocked it down, declaring the incident under control by 7:26am.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria also attended the scene. Despite the rapid response, the body of a male was discovered inside the property once the fire was extinguished. The deceased has yet to be formally identified, but police believe he was the resident of the home.
A neighbour who noticed the smoke attempted to access the house before emergency crews arrived but was unable to enter due to the intensity of the fire. Firefighters remained on site throughout the morning to ensure the area’s safety and to assist with the ongoing investigation.
This afternoon, arson chemists were observed entering the property to determine the cause of the blaze. Speaking to witnesses, it was revealed that a frypan with food was found on the stove, but the food was neither burned nor overcooked, suggesting the fire likely did not start on the cooktop.
Police have confirmed that a report will be prepared for the Coroner as investigations continue.
