A raging pre-dawn inferno has gutted a Truganina townhouse in what authorities are now treating as a suspicious fire, prompting a police investigation and raising questions about what unfolded behind its heavily monitored walls.
Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews were called to 7 Cabarita Street at 4:53am on 8 July 2026, arriving within just four minutes to a confronting scene, a double-storey brick townhouse already fully alight. Flames tore through the structure with such intensity that firefighters were forced to adopt an external attack, unable to enter due to serious concerns over the building’s structural integrity.
As crews battled the blaze from outside, a search of the property confirmed no occupants were inside at the time of the fire.
No less than 24 FRV firefighters, under the watchful direction of Commander Darren Power, worked alongside CFA (Country Fire Authority) crews to bring the situation under control. The fire was eventually contained at 5:29am, 32 minutes after appliances arrived, but not before the home suffered extensive and significant damage.
A Community Advice alert was issued as thick smoke drifted across the surrounding area, impacting nearby residents during the early morning hours.
In a development that has intensified scrutiny, the fire has been deemed suspicious and will now be investigated by Victoria Police.
Adding another layer of intrigue, the property was found to be fitted with multiple CCTV cameras positioned on every corner of the premises. An indication that if the system recorded footage to a cloud or offsite server, the vision may form a critical part of the ongoing investigation.
The municipal building surveyor attended the scene on two separate occasions while emergency crews remained on site, with the structure now set to be assessed for a potential demolition order due to the extent of the damage.

Detectives believe the same offenders rammed a Toyota vehicle into a business on Dohertys Road about 5 minutes later.
Firefighters arrived at the scene of the ram raid to find the car and several jerry cans on fire.
No arrests have been made over either incident.
