What happens when you mix the afterlife with a performer who arrives to learn the lessons of life? End Game, a one woman dramedy and entertaining hour of theatre that provides laughter, tears and plenty of take-aways.
Presented as part of an Australian tour that travelled from Adelaide to Melbourne and Sydney, I was lucky enough to see the show not once, but twice. The first time was to a packed house in Adelaide with props, songs and a story about a performer named Joanie who goes to the afterlife to receive a soul review from her guide. I was automatically drawn into the story around the idea that we are surrounded by guides who put opportunities on the path of life, that we either embrace or reject with various results. The second time was at the MC Showroom in Melbourne to a smaller audience and with some thematic changes that added even more value and punch to the story. Again, I was drawn in to Reddin-Clancy’s excellent storytelling.
Written and performed by Katie including some original music, there are themes around what happens when you don’t achieve your life purposes, sliding door moments and all the inbetween drama of what it’s like to work to live rather than living to work. Artists are complex beings who often have to tread the fine line between making money just so they can create their art. Reddin-Clancy an accomplished voiceover artist slid easily between accents and dialects including an impressive Aussie accent!
End Game provided moments where I felt very connected to the characters on stage as they walked through the pathos of life. Reddin-Clancy is an incredible performer able to balance the fine line between pathos and comedy. She moved seamlessly between multiple characters in this one woman show. Entertaining, thought-provoking and clever, End Game is a must-see and leaves you thinking long after the curtain has closed.
