Sealey Brandt is an open and positive woman who breathes life and vision into all that she creates.
A photographer with a childlike disposition who inspires her subjects and lives to capture unique moments in time. The world for Sealey is too small to contain her incredible life for and incessant need to roam, explore and photograph. Sealey bursts with enthusiasm when recounting stories of her clients, travel experiences and her family. These remain the driving forces behind all that she has achieved and will continue to do.
Sealey was born into one of Australia’s most iconic photographic families. Sealey’s late father Brian Brandt is heralded as the Godfather of Australian photography and owned the most successful advertising photography studio in Melbourne BB&A, as well as Colour Photographic Laboratory (CPL). It was clear artistic vision and a photographic eye was in the blood.
Following a distinguished career in advertising with agencies like Saatchi and Saatchi, Batey Ads and Ogilvy for over twenty years as an art buyer and photographer, Sealey left the advertising world with the intent to become one of the most accomplished photographers in the world. The inspiration for leaving the world of advertising, came in the form of a series of 14 Black and white hand prints of Sealey as a young child produced by her father. It was her father’s influence, work and nurturing encouragement that led to the realisation that keeping such a valuable moment in time to remember for life was a necessity. Sealey developed a passion and duty to deliver a memorable experience and traditional art form to the families and clients she was yet to encounter.
In a time of rapid technologicaI expansion, the digital age convinced people that a digital image was far more convenient and necessary than the traditional processing of negative, black and white film in the darkroom. Sealey rebelled against this idea and has sustained this art form in all her photography. What is often overlooked is the sheer difference of quality, longevity and brilliance that only Silver Gelatin darkroom prints can deliver.
Sealey has travelled far and wide, photographing people and places. These experiences have enriched and moulded Sealey’s ability to translate her passion and vision across cultures and clients. Rising to the challenge of becoming an internationally renowned photographer. She has exhibited her work in Australia, Italy, Singapore and Hong Kong and has become very known particularly for her work with children and people.
Living and working in Singapore for fifteen years has given Sealey the opportunity to live in such an accessible and internationally recognised hub for business, professional development and adventure. This has fostered beautiful and meaningful relationships with clients, families and business partners. The ability to have such ready access to people from all cultures arid from across the world, has continued to inspire and ignite Sealey’s goal is to live, laugh, love and photograph people from around the globe. Thus, Sealey Brandt’s Studio was born and continues to thrive.
The fruits of Sealey’s labour continue to prosper as magazines and art collectors start to discover Sealey’s unique work. A number of Art Fairs and Exhibitions have had the privilege of showing Sealey’s work in Milan, Hong Kong, Singapore, London, Monaco, Paris and Australia. With over 1,000 private collectors around the world Sealey’s prints adorn their walls. Loranza Castelli the curator and owner of Europe’s most successful Photography Art Fair, chose Sealey’s work over all photographer’s in Asia to exhibit in MIA Italy. She also personally bought Sealey’s works for her private collection. Sealey’s passion for doing her best work for her clients that commission her has not waned.
Her fine Art Print are collectable and all have small limited editions. Her Family Portrait commissions continue to please each client as she gives them images that portray each and every personality that she photographs. By producing fine art b/w silver gelatin prints means she leaves a legacy in print, that is handed down through generations.
In 2011 Singapore Tatler awarded Sealey with Photographer of the Year and has continued to do so each year including 2017. In 2012 Sealey became the only published children’s portrait photographer in Asia, showcasing 300 selected images of children she had been commissioned from over 1,000 families. “Beautiful Children of the World” was born. Sealey however, was determined to continue to spread her work far and wide.
Sealey’s approach to her work has developed into three areas of focus. One of those areas has been the growing involvement in charitable organisations and philanthropic endeavours. Most recently, Sealey was invited to photograph the Hagar organisation whose mission is to “restore the lives of women and children, devastated by severe human rights abuses”.
The next is YGAP where she has been invited to photograph their social entrepreneurs in Africa – a place and cause dear to her heart.
The future brings new opportunities for Sealey Brandt including showcasing work in galleries throughout Australia, Art Fairs, Travel opportunities, Sponsorship, competition titles and photographing fresh faces. She is currently living at Mt Buller this winter and available for Family Portrait commissions in the snow and other wise is based in Melbourne and Singapore.
