Wine country is a beautiful place, and there truly is something for everyone. Unfortunately, many people often miss out on the tranquillity of the area because they don’t feel like attending a wine tasting and think that this is all the area really has to offer. That’s why today, we’re sharing five things to do in wine country that don’t involve tasting wine.
Tour a Winery
This may seem an odd point to kick this article off with, but just because you’re visiting a winery, doesn’t mean that you have to participate in a tasting. Winery tours can be quite peaceful, and you can build a whole new appreciation for how this type of establishment works.
For example, did you know that, in most cases, the days of handpicking grapes are long gone? This job is instead done by a harvester, which is a surprisingly intricate machine. The sheer amount of grape harvester parts could keep machinery fanatics entertained for hours, but there are also plenty of other things to see and do on a tour for those with other interests.
Explore Farmers Markets in the Area
Farmers markets are a wonderful attraction to visit in wine country. You’ll be able to browse a collection of fresh produce, handmade crafts, and more. It’s a great opportunity to grab a coffee and spend the morning chatting with locals and finding treasures to take home with you.
Take a Hike
The best wineries tend to be set apart from the rest of the world. Because of this, you’ll usually be able to find plenty of gorgeous trails for hikers of any level, and the experience can be truly breathtaking. Not only is this a great way to relax, but since it’s recommended that we take at least ten thousand steps a day, a hike in wine country can be a great way to promote your physical health. Plus, it’s a wonderful family day out if your children are active types.
Have a Picnic
While you’re out on your hike, or if you still want to enjoy the beauty of the area but don’t feel like tackling any more hills, why not enjoy a lovely little picnic? Putting together a picnic basket can be a great bonding experience for new couples, and families with children can use the experience to start teaching them about how to create healthy, delicious meals.
Those who want to make the experience a little more romantic could also consider getting a gourmet hamper to share with their partner. Either way, a meal out in nature is always a pleasant and peaceful time.
Unplug and Relax
Another great way to enjoy wine country without tasting wine is to simply book a weekend getaway and spend time out in nature. This is a great way to unplug from the stress of city living and can be a wonderful girls’ trip or bonding experience for couples.
Bonus Tip: Bring an aromatherapy diffuser and some pampering products to set up your own little spa in your accommodation and boost the revitalising effects of your mini holiday.
Although obviously best known for its alcoholic offerings, wine country has a lot more to offer than just tastings. Next time you’re looking for a nice day out, give one of these options a go for a fun (and completely sober) time.
