The Mudgee-based estate will now power its entire operation, including the vineyard, winery, cellar door, and hatted restaurant, The Zin House, with a landmark solar and battery system. The switch is the equivalent of taking up to 70 cars off the road annually in terms of CO2 emissions.
The ‘first of its kind’ project, by SPS Solar + Water will serve as a working prototype to lead the way for other regional businesses that wish to to achieve energy independence. The
The $850,000 project was made possible through a financial structure by Smart Ease, which reduced upfront costs and ensured the system was cash-flow positive from day one.
The project is just one pillar in Lowe’s commitment to sustainability. In 2021, Lowe established a ‘Climate Change Vineyard’ which exclusively features Mediterranean grape varieties, selected for their suitability to Mudgee’s predicted future climate and that require fewer resources to thrive.
