a one-off solo show and reflections

When our world turns upside-down, there’s always music…

Do you know that time in your life where everything goes to shit? Maybe you lose your job, or your lover leaves you, or you get a huge speeding fine. Or maybe your family breaks apart. All of us go through something like that at some point and it is most devastating. But there are also things to be learned and cherished.

The past month and a half have been devastating for me personally. But humans have an amazing superpower whereby they can adapt to almost anything and so this month and a half has also been intriguing, eye-opening and regenerative.

All of that to say how grateful I am for music in even the darkest of times. Making it, listening to it and being around other people doing it. So, even though I am currently performing in a musical most nights of the week, I am taking a night off on October 31st to give you some of my own music live in concert in case that’s what you might be needing or wanting right now.

For one night only I will be sharing my next batch of new music. I have been writing so many new things and have so many different ideas that I thought it might be nice to share them all at once before I release them over the next year or so. Briefly:

Hymns for Atheists

Some of you may have remembered me performing some hymns I have written from the perspective of an atheist. I will perform a couple of these with special friends Georgina Lewis (piano) and Jacinta Caruana and Susie Goble (vocals).

Songs From The Bottom Of The Well

Every now and again I suffer from episodes of depression. Sometimes it lasts a couple of days, sometimes a couple of weeks. Earlier this year I was out of action for two weeks so I decided to record myself improvising as a way of helping myself heal. Turns out that this process helped me through and I ended up composing a bunch of music that will go on a new album called “Songs From The Bottom Of The Well” due out in 2020. See video above.

Pop and XANI 4

My next EP will feature a bunch of new art-pop songs including “Grey” which was a single I released in May this year. I’ll perform a couple of these, too.

If you’d like to come along to this show you can book tickets now from JazzLab. I have invited a few guest artists to come and share the stage with me including Brooke Custerson (drums)Cristian Barbieri (guitar)Jacinta Caruana and Susie Goble (vocals) and Georgina Lewis (piano)

Finally, a big thank you to everyone who could come along to MAS‘ third concert for the year. It was a stunning and beautiful show and we were so grateful for such an attentive and happy audience. We will share news of our final concert later on but for now, please help to support us with making more music by purchasing our live RHYTHMS album here.

That’s all for now! Have a happy October and take care out there.

Love xani
xx
