The Australian War Memorial will commemorate Remembrance Day 2022 without social restrictions for the first time since 2019.
The National Ceremony will be held on 11 November, commencing at 10.45am in the Memorial’s Captain Reg Saunders Courtyard.
Limited free tickets for general seating and mobility impaired areas at the National Ceremony are available on the Memorial’s website: https://www.awm.gov.au/commemoration/remembrance-day.
General attendance at the ceremony is welcome. Those without tickets are encouraged to bring chairs/and or picnic rugs to view the ceremony from within the Sculpture Garden.
The Remembrance Day National Ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC television, and will be available for viewing on ABC iView, as well as being live-streamed on the Memorial’s Facebook page.
Memorial Director Matt Anderson said that if people are not able to attend the ceremony, they are encouraged to commemorate by watching the broadcast and taking time to reflect.
“The Memorial invites all Australians, wherever they are across the nation, to commemorate with us at 11 am on 11 November by pausing for one minute’s silence,” Mr Anderson said.
“As a mark of respect, it’s important we observe one minute’s silence and remember those who have died or suffered.”
The 2022 Remembrance Day National Ceremony will feature traditional elements including one minute’s silence at 11am, the laying of wreaths by invited dignitaries, and a Commemorative Address.
On the afternoon of Remembrance Day, a Last Post Ceremony will take place at 4.45pm. As is tradition, on 11 November the eulogy for the Unknown Australian Soldier will be read and live-streamed on the Memorial’s Facebook and YouTube webpages.
The Australian War Memorial will be closed to visitors the morning of Remembrance Day and will open to the public at 1 pm. Free tickets are required to visit the galleries and/or attend the Last Post Ceremony.
