BendiCon 2024

I’ve been home for a couple of days and I’m still very tired. I’m not sure if it’s hormones, my body hating me, or just overdoing it at BendiCon on Sunday. But I’m very tired and I had an awesome time. The reason I was at BendiCon is because the Victorian Discworld Klatch is trying to find normality and attend many mini-cons. I’m really not sure how to find normality, but we’re doing our best and our best involves staffing tables at events. We’ve got a few events coming up and if you want to stay informed just visit our webpage so you can sign up for our newsletter.

BendiCon is held once a year. It’s very much like SupaNova or Oz ComicCon, but on a smaller scale. We were in the basketball court at the Red Energy Arena (but I wouldn’t dare name drop). Our table was well set up and we had too many people staffing the table. I ended up spending most of the time wandering between the stalls and talking to people. I did manage to do some spruiking for the Klatch to justify my presence there. But I also bought things. I’ll list the books here, but I’ll also unveil them in a video in due course.

My loot includes books I’ve bought from friends. I love having friends as authors, or authors who are also friends…one of those. I bought books from authors on four tables, yet I only have nine books, should have found one more to get a nice, round number.

The list is as follows:

  • Iconic by A.J. Gordon and Peter J. Aldin
  • Frostbite: A Werewolf Tale by David Wellington
  • We Call It Monster by Lachlan Walter
  • Beginnings: Aussie Speculative Fiction edited by Alanah Andrews, Austin P. Sheehan & Jocelyn Spark
  • Lovecraft’s Iraq by David Rose
  • Blood, Brains & Bullets edited by Chris McInally and Dane Hatchell
  • Shrill: Book One of Realms of Shadowblood by Troy M. Williams
  • Fable: Book Two of Realms of Shadowblood by Troy M. Williams
  • Firestorm: Book Three of Realms of Shadowblood by Troy M. Williams

I also bought the most awesome drink bottle. It’s one of those big, modern ones which I can transfer from car to desk at will. It has a dragon sitting on a pile of books. I’ve just realised I didn’t buy any earrings, how sad. I’ll show that in the video when I get around to making it. I’m a little behind on my videos.

We finished off the day by having dinner in the pub across the corridor. The chef made me a great meal, the only problem with it was the size on the plate. I couldn’t finish it and didn’t want to take a doggy bag. But there’s a thought. Why is it called a ‘doggy bag’? I’ve no idea, I could google, but I won’t. I sent a message to the chef saying he was a genius.

A great day was had by all and now I have weeks of reading to remind me of the great time. If you enjoy these things then I suggest you google and see which organisation is putting one on in your area. I’ll continue writing about the ones I attend.
