Albert Park College will be launching its sixth annual Art Show on Friday 14 October 2016 with a gala event at the college’s new Bay Street Campus in Port Melbourne.
Artists are invited to submit 2-3 dimensional works selected by a panel for this annual exhibition taking place October 14-16 2016.
This year’s Art Show is a significant chapter in the school’s life due to the opening of the new campus. The heritage listed Port Melbourne Drill Hall will soon form the centrepiece of the College’s Year 9 program “Da Vinci Project’, an environmental arts curriculum through which students find ways to address environmental issues using art as a means of expression. Designed by 6 Degrees Architects, the new building will provide an exciting backdrop to the College’s sixth Art Show.
Professionally curated by Trudy Rice and Lesley Melody and with a prize pool of $6,500 this year there is sure to be a great collection shown from both local & national artists. According to Art Curator Trudy Rice, the school’s annual art show provides an opportunity for diverse artists to exhibit and sell their work with part of the sale proceeds going to a good cause.
Albert Park College Students are also encouraged to submit works and are involved in many aspects of the event.
On Friday 14 October the new Bay Street campus will be transformed into a gallery with art works for sale, an art auction, food, beverages and live entertainment. The art show is open to the public throughout the weekend of October 15-16.
“The Albert Park Art Show is now in its 6th year and the calibre of works remains high. Artists receive 75% of the selling price of their works and 25% goes to the school,” said Ms Rice. “As one of the very few arts based schools in Melbourne, Albert Park College is very fortunate to have a fantastic elective program encompassing a range of art based subjects across diverse mediums.”
Some of the previous artists who have won Albert Park College art awards across diverse mediums include: Mitch Vane, Maria LeBlanc, Leah Mariani and Julie Ramsden.
