DANCE CARD encourages over 50s to dance like nobody’s watching
Over-50s: dig out your dancing shoes and get ready to fill your DANCE CARD as Port Phillip Council, supported by Bendigo Bank, presents four different dances guaranteed to get you moving.
Harking back to Saturday night dances, the toe-tapping events will be spread across the rest of the year and municipality, starting with a Zumba Dance Party on 29 June at Fishermans Bend Community Centre.
After that, residents are invited to take a virtual trip around Greece with the Go Greek Dance on 24 August at South Melbourne Community Centre.
Smooth moves are expected on 19 October as The Soul Groove sashays to Temperance Hall South Melbourne as part of the Seniors Festival After Dark offering. To round out the program, over 50s can go-go to a surprise venue on 7 December for a 50s and 60s Blitz disco.
No experience, partner or special clothing needed, just get on the dance floor and let the music take over!
Mayor Dick Gross said the idea for DANCE CARD came from extensive community feedback.
“A love of dancing is universal and it doesn’t go away as people get older. DANCE CARD gives Port Phillip residents the chance to bring back their dancefloor moves and try out some new ones. The benefits of a good boogie are endless and what better way to catch up with friends or meet new people,” Cr Gross said.
After dancing the night away, a light supper will be served, which is included in the price of the ticket.
