Obviously, it’s a long way from Darlinghurst to Nashville. Even further if you start from the outskirts of Melbourne and set out via London.

It’s taken a few years but, finally, they’ve arrived. All divergent paths have led right here. Welcome to Darlinghurst and the release of their self-titled debut album.

Having lived in Nashville for a couple years after a successful songwriting stint in the UK where he co-wrote the #1 single “The Promise” for Girls Aloud and worked with Kylie Minogue and the Pet Shop Boys, band member Jason Resch returned to Australia intent on creating a new band that had a shared vision. Jason explains; “I’ve always loved music and always wanted to write great songs. But I knew something would happen, and I figured if I met up with like-minded people, we’d form a band.”

Fate and circumstance lead to Matt Darvidis, Cassie Leopold and Pagan Newman joining Jason to commence their Darlinghurst journey.

On 2 August 2019, the Melbourne based band released their very first song Sorry Won’t Get You Back that climbed to #1 on The Music Network CountryTown Hot 50 airplay chart.

To support that first single release, Darlinghurst played their second ever gig at the 2019 Gympie Muster.

Now two years later, Darlinghurst have scored 6 x Top 5 The Music Network CountryTown Hot 50 airplay chart hits, were nominated for their very first Golden Guitar nomination for New Talent of the Year and performed at the Groundwater Country Music Festival, Deni Ute Muster, Gympie Music Muster, Live & Loud Stage Tamworth as well as open for artists such as Jimmy Barnes, James Blundell, The Wolfe Brothers and The Black Sorrows.

The 12-song album was recorded and produced by Pete Dacy and band member Jason Resch (at Melbourne’s Secret Sound Studio) and mixed by Grammy award winner Jack Joseph Puig (U2, John Mayer, The Rolling Stones, Green Day) who remarked “This band continues to write amazing songs time after time; it’s going to be a long and amazing ride.”

All four members have combined their different musical influences and experiences and created a fresh sound in the Australian country sphere that is as accessible as it is unique.

The album is grounded in refined songwriting, a keen ear for melody, relatable lyricism and exceptional vocal performances, their voice’s blending together in sumptuous, layered harmonies creating a fifth voice – Darlinghurst.

Where Darlinghurst goes from here is anyone’s guess, but Jason, Cassie, Pagan and Matt know exactly where they hope this will all lead. In the US two Darlinghurst songs have made their way onto the important Music Row radio chart; “The dream is to get to Nashville and promote our songs,” says Pagan.

We hope you enjoy Darlinghurst’s self-titled debut album, out on Helium through MGM.
