In Linden New Art’s brand-new Exhibition Space

(22 August – 29 September 2019)

Crashing by Design by William Holt will be the first show to take over Linden New Art’s brand-new exhibition space called Linden Projects Space, located at the rear of the heritage-listed gallery. The solo exhibition showcases new artworks that explore the vulnerable fragility that is mutually shared between our natural world and our own humanity – running from Thursday 22 August until Sunday 29 September.

imageLinden New Art director Melinda Martinsaid: “We are delighted to be launching our new gallery space with new work that features in the Melbourne Fringe Festival.

We are working with Fringe to present workshops and further opportunities for artists over the next three years.”

Crashing by Design reveals intense textual elements that revolve around the artist’s ability to recycle disused and discarded paint and the use of found objects from Australia’s natural environment.

As a well-known Australian abstract artist, William’s latest exhibition reworks and rethinks layers of paint allowing for hidden depths to develop and new textures to emerge.

Featuring a variety of natural mediums and materials, William culminates years of experimenting with paint to create this series of organic 3D wall reliefs.

imageThe contemporary series is inspired by William’s recent move to the coastal region of South Gippsland, as well as the immense dry riverbeds and vast wilderness he has experienced in Central Australia.

These two contrasting horizontal environments are represented through the exhibition – whilst they are visually disparate, they equally evoke a totemic quality.

Audiences can expect a dramatic display of texture and use of colour which is a result of the artist’s distinctive style of painting that hovers between the abstract plane and the visual tension of the natural world.

Crashing by Design is a part of this year’s Melbourne Fringe Festival which is the first time Linden New Art has been a participating venue in the program of over 450 events across Melbourne.

William Holt has a Master of Fine Art in Painting from Monash University, alongside a broad range of experience in painting, sculpture and installation art.

The new Linden Projects Space is designed to spotlight the talent of artists and curators living and working on the Southside of Melbourne.
