Environmental Film Festival Australia to highlight the importance of action in the City of Darebin
The Environmental Film Festival Australia (EFFA) will make its mark at the Palace Westgarth Cinema this month, with its biggest program to date. Five of the best international environmental films will be showcased over four days, with an amazing selection of experts and panellists joining select sessions. The festival is supported by the City of Darebin, and the films are centred on the stories of heroes who have stood up to fight for environmental justice.
In this intimate screening of family and loss, witness a Mexican family learn to cope with the death of their beloved patriarch and with him, years of agricultural practice and knowledge. In a special panel, the relationship between culture and the country will be explored with local indigenous Elders and leaders, including Wurundjeri Elder, Uncle Bill Nicholson. Peer into the worlds of the people at the front lines of environmental change in this series of short films, followed by an in-depth discussion led by Bush Heritage Australia on steps we can take within our community to conserve Australia’s beautiful landscape. Follow the challenging journey of a Melbourne couple whose conservation efforts led them to rural Papa New Guinea in order to save the Tenkile tree kangaroo from extinction. Audience members will have the exclusive opportunity to speak with Jim and Jean Thomas as a part of EFFA’s special closing night event. EFFA was established in 2010 as an annual film festival with a vision to engage Australians to explore environmental issues that affect us today. Showcased in the festival are local and international films chosen to encourage us to all make a change.
