HAIRSPRAY – the Musical opens in Melbourne

Some of Australia’s favourite performers are brushing off their dancing feet, including the much-loved @theshanejacobson who will star as beloved housewife Edna Turnblad, alongside the hilarious @officialtoddmckenney as Wilbur Turnblad, @rhondaburchmore as the villainous Velma Von Tussle, @robmillsymills as the lovable Corny Collins, Asabi Goodman as the powerhouse Motormouth Maybelle and introducing Carmel Rodrigues as Tracy Turnblad.

The Toorak Times sent their lead reporter and chief photographer, Lord Murray Schoorman to the Regent Theatre today to cover the preparations ahead of the opening night on Monday 15 August 2022.

With a story more relatable and pertinent than ever, the Broadway production of Hairspray also toured nationally across the US, a West End production was nominated for a record-breaking 11 Olivier Awards and it was adapted as a film in 2007 starring John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken and Zac Efron.

As mentioned, the official opening night is Monday 15 August 2022, which is no accident, it’s precisely 20 years to the day from when the much-loved production opened on Broadway. After the Melbourne season concludes, Hairspray will tour to Adelaide and Sydney.
