With the departure of Donald Trump in disgrace and his 4 years as President of the USA over, the United States of America has its 46th President.
The world could almost be heard sighing collectively, as Joe Biden was sworn in as president in the early hours of this morning, Eastern Standard Time.
Possibly facing more crisis than any incoming President since Abraham Lincoln, President Biden will waste no time in signing a range of proclamations including nomination to Cabinet positions.
Among his first acts as President will be with first lady Jill Biden, to travel to Arlington National Cemetery for a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
The Bidens will be joined by former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton and former first ladies Michelle Obama, Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton.
Biden participated in a pass in review on the East front of the Capitol with members of the military after his inauguration ceremony to review the readiness of military troops.
Pass in reviews are a military tradition that reflects the peaceful transfer of power to a new commander-in-chief.
The hard work lays ahead, but there is a feeling that maybe, there is now light at the end of the tunnel for the darkness that had fallen over the USA in recent times.
