This is the 2nd of a 3-part program on Col Millington, who was 66 years of age when interviewed and who is, in so many ways, a classic “Baby Boomer”.
Being a “boomer” he was caught up in the music explosion of the 1960’s and became part of the young band culture that was exploding in and around Melbourne.
This week we learn how his “hobby” band led him into a lifetime career in music that has spanned over many decades. However Col is more than a musician and singer, he is also a talented songwriter.
He shares the stories of his early professional career and how through the encouragement of an Australian country music great – Johnny Chester, he was encouraged to embrace and develop out his career in what could be loosely termed, Country Music.
But it’s not a glamorous lifestyle and Col shares his stories of the endless tours throughout regional Australia and the incredible amount of work that was demanded of he was to keep working at his music.
However, Col’s story is not simply music-centric, as we will discover as his story unwinds in a most evocative way.
