listen to older voices: gladys buchan – part 1

This is the second and final part of the story of Gladys Buchan who was 97 years of age when interviewed in November of 2011.

Gladys was bought up in a loving and caring home in Carlton – Melbourne. Her parents allowed her the freedom to roam and explore her local environment. We learned that her mother was instrumental in encouraging her into music where she excelled and only the Great Depression stopped her from becoming a music teacher herself.

Her stories about her father are the stories of a girl who loved her father who indeed, had a great influence upon her.

In this part of her story we learn of the introduction of another man into her life who would have an equally important influence. She shares of how she met, married and had children with James Buchan. She talks about, in her words, the “happy days”.

Her story both entertains and informs and I’m certain you will enjoy the story of her and “Jack” towing a very heavy caravan and on running out of petrol, how Jack used kerosene as fuel.

They don’t make stories like this anymore!
