[vc_cta h2=”Welcome to Listen To Older Voices, a program produced by Rob Greaves for Uniting Melba and podcast through the Toorak Times and Tagg.” style=”3d” color=”orange”][/vc_cta]
Listen To Older Voices presents the stories, views and opinions of our older citizens. It is predominantly in a life & times format, with interviewees reflecting upon their lives from earliest memories. An underlying principle of the program is to promote the concept of positive ageing, reinforcing the principle that older people have & continue to make a valuable contribution to both their local & wider community. In this, the final part of the story of Honorene Olson, we learn about her husband, Sven, their wonderful life together and how she and Sven worked hard in their various careers carving out a good life.
Honorene talks about visiting Sweden, Sven’s place of birth, and how not long after they returned from that trip he suffered a stroke. Sadly, within a few years he had passed away leaving Honorene with many wonderful experiences and memories but feeling his loss deeply.
As she talks we listen to her thoughts on educating children with disabilities – mainstream schooling Vs special needs schools, which is a current debate still being had.
We also begin to understand that Honorene thinks just not about the present, but also the future and now in the latter years of her life, it is her reflections that clearly show a life of happiness and challenges.
