This is part 1 of a 2-part program that was originally aired in April 2010, and one we believe deserves a broader audience through podcasting.
Born in 1931, Lesley was born in the most unlikely named location of Icky Poo Valley, Victoria. She tells how her father built the family home and in doing so she shares her earliest memories about her father and her early life. She enjoyed school eventually ending up in Box Hill Girls Technical School.
She undertook studies to become a nurse and unlike the university trained nurses of today, she tells how the greater majority of her training was on-the-job, in a hospital, and her stories of what life was like under the Matron are very entertaining.
Lesley recalls how she met her husband to be, Ray, at a dance. They connected and eventually married. Now the stories come thick and fast and we find ourselves informed, if not educated, on a range of topics in a way that is most engaging.
