Welcome to Listen To Older Voices, a program produced by Rob Greaves and podcast through the Toorak Times and Tagg” style=”3d” color=”orange”][/vc_cta][/vc_column][/vc_row]This is part 1 of a 3-part repeat Golden Moment program, featuring the Life and Times of Lily Miller.
When originally broadcast in early 2007, Lily was 82 years of age. Born in Lithuana in 1925, this is far more than a story of a woman who came from another country to make a new life in Australia, it is a story that is both incredible as well as filled with drama, loss and triumph.
It may as well have been developed as a fictional movie script except, it is a real story!
During the three programs Lily tracks her life from the age of three through until the time of the interview. In part 1 we learn what life was like in her home where WWII was fast approaching and, her mother was Russian and her father German.
Then her life changed dramatically during WWII when her parents separated. Prior to that having her parents being members of countries on different sides of the war led to many unusual and chaotic moments, which included a run-in with the Gestapo.
It is a fascinating start to a fascinating story.
