She has told revealing stories about her life, her parents, grandparents, work, meeting and marrying Ted, an indigenous man and how she was so warmly welcomed into his tribe and became the eldest living elder of that tribe – the YarraTribe.
In this, the third and final part of her story, we learn of the constantly growing bond between her and Ted, and how after travelling together, they eventually settle down. Then, just as they begin to enjoy this part of their life, Ted passed away.
Once more alone in her life, Phyllis is left to fend for herself, but nothing ever did or ever would keep this remarkable woman down!
She continued to be a mother to her children and continued to work and yet, after all this, she manages to end up in India!
This story alone is worth listening to, in what has been a series of wonderful and engaging stories sthat he has shared. There is never a dull moment in Phyllis’ life and humour, sadness, brashness, assertiveness, commitment, hard work and love – all describe this wonderful woman.
As a post-script to her story, Phyllis did make 100 years of age and passed away in May of 2013.
