Last week we learned how Ron, who was born in 1930, obtained a job with the ABC as a young man, allowing him to follow his dream of working in radio. This was despite for some time being forced by circumstances to work in his fathers shoe shop.
Yet even working in his fathers shop had its bright side, for it was in the shoe store that he met his wife to be, Lynne
In this episode of his story, he shares first hand stories of the ins and outs of setting up for broadcasting and interestingly why, in the modern day and age, there are more problems than he faced in those halcyon days of radio post WWII.
This is anything but a dry technical talk but is quite reflective and very humorous. Ron’s story is full of surprises and we learn that he also gained his pilots license and why, after eventually retiring, he went back to work for Radio Australia.
