Welcome to part one of a 4-part program on the Life and Times of Baby Boomer – Simon Rashleigh.
Born into the 1950’s, the same decade that Rock ‘n’ Roll was born, Simon would realise by the time he was a teenager that music would form an integral part of the rest of his life.
His story commences from his earliest memories, of moving into the then almost semi-rural area of Ferntree Gully where he watched houses and estates being built around him.
Simon talks about his education, which consisted largely of attending local schools until the opportunity to go to a more prestigious private school came along. This was a move he embraced as his learning accelerated and his exposure to this learning just increased his desire for a higher education pathway to university.
However the family circumstances changed and Simon found himself in Ferntree Gully Technical school after which, he took up an apprenticeship in staircase making, an apprenticeship that was short lived. So it is we learn how this abrupt end to his staircase making career led to him working in a local music shop,
All of this leads to discussions of Simon forming and fronting local bands as a vocalist.
We learn how all this in turn, set a foundation for a career that would eventually cover almost all aspects of the Australian music business.
