Welcome to Listen To Older Voices, a program produced by Rob Greaves
for Wesley Connect and podcast through the Toorak Times and Tagg.
Listen To Older Voices presents the stories, views and opinions of our older citizens. It is predominantly in a life & times format, with interviewees reflecting upon their lives from earliest memories. An underlying principal of the program is to promote the concept of positive ageing, reinforcing the principle that older people have & continue to make a valuable contribution to both their local & wider community.
Lynn’s story is another story from the Baby Boomer generation, those born post WWII and who are now entering their senior years. As we listen to Lynn and her story we might reflect on other Baby Boomers stories and realise, that while they are now generally between 65 and 70+ years of age they are still very active in lifestyle and are leaving quite a legacy.
In this, the second of a 3-part program on the Life & Times of Lynn Thorpe, Lynn recalls the stories of her life and the gradual coming together with her husband to be, Billy Thorpe. Between stories of motor bikes and Billy showing a lot of interest in her, the story moves to where they get together and have children and move to Los Angeles. In this part of her story Lynn recalls being surrounded by Aussie ex-pats, mostly musicians and creative’s, and the fantastic parties she and Billy attended including one where Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, who were filming Grease, turned up in full costume.
Stories of massive earthquakes and a return to Australia are only topped by her story of the amazing trip she and Billy took to Morocco, which led to Billy’s final album being recorded, an album that is arguably his best – Tangiers.
