Welcome to Listen To Older Voices, a program produced by Rob Greaves for Wesley Mission Victoria and podcast through the Toorak Times.
Listen To Older Voices presents the stories, views and opinions of our older citizens. It is predominantly in a life & times format, with interviewees reflecting upon their lives from earliest memories. An underlying principal of the program is to promote the concept of positive ageing, reinforcing the principle that older people have & continue to make a valuable contribution to both their local & wider community.
Phil circa 1967
This is part 1 of a 3-part program featuring 69-year-old Phil Manning. Phil is another Baby Boomer who has not just grasped the opportunities life threw up at him but reveled in them and really followed his dream. He is well educated, well spoken and has strong political beliefs as shown by his concern for the environment which he discusses in a later program.
In fact it is Phil’s love of music that seems to drive him, and his amazing skill with a guitar is the thing he is most known for – being hailed as one of the best guitarists Australia has produced. During the three parts of his story we will learn about Phil, the all round musician, who is also known as the driving force behind Australia’s most successful and most loved blues-based group, Chain. Yet during our investigation of his music and his story we will also learn much about Phil Manning, the citizen of Earth.
