Port Phillip business owners and representatives committed to reducing their environmental impact recently gathered to launch Port Phillip Council’s Sustainable Business Network (SBN).
Trading sustainability credentials over croissants, the sell-out event is set to be the first of many meetups that link local businesses with informative presentations centred around making sustainable changes.
The successful launch of the SBN marks the beginning of a collaborative partnership between Port Phillip Council and businesses within the City, and aims to give them a way to connect with industry experts, learn about new sustainability initiatives and meet other businesses owners and representatives.
The first event featured Olympic aerial skier Jacqui Cooper, energy efficiency expert Graeme Ambrose, sustainability consultant Reahan Martin from Council’s Solar Partnership (EnviroGroup) and impact officer Amy Huva from Morris Group.
Participants discovered ways of reducing their energy costs, how to read their utility bills and the benefits of investing in an energy audit.
Mayor Dick Gross said the SBN was a fantastic opportunity for Port Phillip businesses to learn about sustainability and network with other businesses.
“The launch of the SBN is great example of how Council is supporting businesses to make sustainable changes. Council has been overwhelmed with the number of businesses who want to be involved in the Sustainable Business Network,” Cr Gross said. “Business owners and representatives have already told us how great it is to have an event where they can network learn from one another – we can’t wait to hold more events”
The SBN will meet four times a year and topics covered will be determined based on feedback provided.
