In 2014, Pure Pop Records closed its doors for the last time, leaving a gaping hole in the music scene here in St Kilda where it is still very much missed to this day.
Over its nine-year history, PPR played host to some of Melbourne’s finest acts as well as many international acts. Some of the more memorable gigs included; ‘The White Stripes’, Glen Hansard, Marlon Williams and of course that summer of classic albums which featured over 60 of Melbourne’s finest playing some of the most iconic albums ever made.
Pure Pop Records had support from a real community of music lovers, no matter what day of the week it was, you could always find a cold beer and great conversation from like-minded people.
….. So after 4 years, we think it is about time for a reunion!
A bit about the musicians…
GALLIE
With influences of Van Morrison and inspired by American soul/blues ambassadors such as Bill Withers, Irish born singer and songwriter – GALLIE is best known for his sublime lyrics and tremendous melodies sung with a voice that is both soulful and incredibly expressive that earned his most recent album ‘The Occoquan River’ rave reviews in Australia and America.
CHARLES JENKINS
Leaping from ARIA-nominated, international success with Icecream Hands to a universally lauded run of albums with The Zhivagos, Charles Jenkins has marked himself out as one of Australia’s finest songwriters over 30 years. For this Pure-Pop Plus reunion, and fresh from a sold-out Darebin Music Feast performance, he’ll be accompanied by the golden-tonsilled Douglas Lee Robertson (Icecream Hands) and multi-instrumental wizard David Andrew Milne (Zhivagos) to perform songs from every stage of his career, including many which had Pure Pop Records packed to the rafters on many a legendary Sunday afternoon.
XANI KOLAC
An explorer of sounds and a lively entertainer, Xani Kolac has spent the past ten years professionally experimenting with her chosen instrument: the violin. Not one for stereotypes, Xani has taken her violin into a myriad settings from jazz, electro-folk, pop to heavy metal. Her solo project is XANI – a one-woman show incorporating live looping and effects pedals to make eclectic pop and instrumental music.
Xani has performed with her drums/violin duo The Twoks with Mark Leahy in Japan, Edinburgh and NYC as well as at festivals all around Australia. She also performs regularly in theatre at MTC, Malthouse and Black Swan (WA) and with Tim Rogers, Jens Lekman, Paul Grabowsky, Clare Bowditch and many more. Photo by Michelle Grace Hunder.
GEORGIA FIELDS
Brimming with an intoxicating melodicism, Georgia Fields‘ vivid songcraft draws on influences as far-reaching as Greek mythology, lunar folklore and the succulent anatomy of citrus fruits, earning her a reputation as one of Melbourne’s brightest alt-pop artists. Fresh from a November tour including multiple performances at Mullum Music Festival, Georgia will be joined by her band at Memo Music Hall.

RYAN COFFEY
A regular Pure Pop Records performer, Ryan Coffey combines his incisive comic eye, his blistering guitar skill, his howling vocal talent, and his mastery of the loop pedal to create hilarious anthems to everyday life; live, before your eyes. His breadth of skill has made him a darling of both comedy and music festivals alike.
