With Save the Koala Month (September) quickly approaching, the Australian Koala Foundation (AKF) is inviting Aussies to celebrate the iconic True Blues and take a step towards tangible conservation efforts.
Deborah Tabart OAM, Chair of the Australian Koala Foundation, says Save the Koala Month has a huge impact on conservation and protection efforts.
“The AKF currently believes there are less than 60,000 Koalas remaining in the wild and numerous challenges continue to threaten their survival. Habitat loss, climate change, disease and human interference have led to significant population decline. With this in mind, it’s crucial that Australians unite to ensure a thriving future for the Koalas.
“Save the Koala Month is an integral part in our commitment to helping the Koala. We need the support of the community to take action. Together we can make a difference to the survival of the species.”
Throughout Save the Koala Month, the AKF is inviting Australians to celebrate the iconic True Blues and be a Koala Hero through small acts of contribution. From planting trees in Koala habitats, fundraising, or raising awareness on social media, every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference in safeguarding the future of these treasured animals.
“Right now, our True Blues need true heroes and support can come in many ways. The AKF has created a 30-day list of activities to entertain you through this fantastic month,” Tabart says.
With 30 days and 30 ways to save the Koala, individuals are encouraged to organise community events, art exhibitions, or campaigns centred around the theme of Koala conservation. By incorporating art and creativity, the AKF aims to ignite passion and empathy for our favourite Aussie animal and their environment.
“Save the Koala Month is not just about raising funds, but also about fostering a connection between people and these wonderful creatures. We want people to understand that the survival of the Koala depends on us, and every action, no matter how small, counts toward their conservation.”
