Concert for Homelessness Week 1

Don’t miss this special concert on Sunday 5th August, 3pm at Deakin Edge.

Presented by the School of Hard Knocks, this concert includes Street Requiem for those who have died on the street by Kathleen McGuire, Andy Payne & Jonathon Welch … AND the premiere of Tattoo, a new musical, written by the Choir of Hard Knocks in collaboration with Warren Wills.

Street Requiem features Rosamund Illing, Asher Reichman, Danielle Matthews, THECHO!R, the Sing The World choir and the Choir of Hard Knocks, conducted by Jonathon. The Choir of Hard Knocks are credited with being the only artists in Australian music history to have been awarded the highest accolades in the same year. These include a Logie Award for the Most Outstanding Factual Documentary TV Series in 2007 (for the ABC’s ‘Choir of Hard Knocks’ documentary), an ARIA award for Best TV Soundtrack, Platinum ARIA award for their first CD “Songs from the TV Series” a Gold ARIA award for their second CD “Songs of Hope and Inspiration” and a coveted Helpmann Award for Most Outstanding Special Event for their sell out concerts at Sydney Opera House in 2007.

The Choir is led by Jonathon, their Founding Artistic Director, now in their 12th year of singing together. They still rehearse weekly at Deakin Edge, Federation Square.
Most importantly, the ongoing and regular contact the choir provides to the members has had a profound effect on their lives, leading many of the original members back to either part time or full time study or work.

All funds raised from this performance will go to support the School of Hard Knocks, and will contribute to life-changing, inspirational work empowering through the arts. The School builds upon the model of the Choir of Hard Knocks, now expanding to comprise hundreds of people in Australia’s cities and states. It delivers a wide range of arts and cultural initiatives to people experiencing disadvantage across a number of sectors of our community.

Lives are transformed when individuals are provided with opportunities to perform with pre-eminent artists in Australia’s finest venues. This process builds confidence, self-esteem and encourages pathways to education and employment.

Tickets are $25 adult and $15 child under 12 and concessions.

Visit the School’s website at https://schoolofhardknocks.org.au/ to book your tickets and find out more about their inspirational work.
