It’s been a challenging 12 months for the music industry, but there’s a much-deserved celebration to be had with WAM being pleased to announce Hear & Now, two huge concert events helping to kick off the action-packed WA Music Week presented by Act Belong Commit next month.
Across Friday 19 – Saturday 20 March Hear & Now will bring a gathering of WA’s best and brightest musical artists to the stage at HBF Stadium in Mt Claremont, thanks to funding received from the State Government of WA. In between the indoor/mainstage sets there’ll also be stripped back performances from some more of our favourite local acts.
On Friday 19 March, the stadium will rock to a double-headline bill featuring WA music royalty POND (new album expected later in 2021) and San Cisco, whose current album Between You And Me, received a ‘Best Album’ nomination at the forthcoming WAMAwards. They’ll be joined by Fremantle’s beloved singer/songwriter Stella Donnelly, who has also been recording a new LP, the follow-up to 2019’s wonderful Beware Of The Dogs. Opening the show will be emerging WA hop-hop maestro, Adrian Dzvuke, who is also up for two WAMAwards (‘Best Hip- Hop Act’ & ‘Best Electronic Producer’).
Outside the stadium, sets from dream-folk duo Oceanique, acclaimed jazz singer Lois Olney, award-winning folk singer/songwriter Helen Shanahan and country/blues performer Darcy Hay will delight the evening sky.
Saturday 20 March is set to be another cracking show with the biggest WA-based breakthrough act of 2020 Spacey Jane (#2 in triple j’s Hottest 100 and five nominations at the WAMAwards), mega-charming rock’n’rollers (and ‘Best Rock Act’ nominees) The Southern River Band and indie-pop faves Dulcie (nominated for ‘Most Popular Act’ & ‘Most Popular Live Act’). ‘Best Indigenous Act’ nominees, One Armed Point’s The Struggling Kings, will kick off proceedings in bold fashion.
Outdoors during the intervals, revellers will enjoy stripped back sets from Steve Hensby, The Little Lord Street Band, Queency and Siobhan Cotchin, all of whom are 2020 WAMAward nominees.
Hear & Now is a two-night stadium-sized celebration of the joy that is WA music, with good times and fresh vibes for all. Doors open on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 March at 6pm, with the concerts finishing at 11pm. Tickets are $44 + BF (please note: no 2-night tickets available) on sale from 9am WST Tuesday 2 March via ticketmaster.com.au
