West Australian Music (WAM) is excited to launch the fifteenth instalment of its acclaimed regional recording project series, with artists applications now open for Demos from the Goldfields/Esperance region. Following projects Sounds of the Goldfields (2016) and Demos from the Northern Goldfields (2018), WAM are returning to the region to showcase the artists, songs and stories in key areas not featured on the previous compilations.

Demos from the Goldfields/Esperance region will provide regional and remote artists the exciting opportunity to professionally record an original song with some of WA’s best award-winning producers, including; Matt Gio and Dan Carroll (Rada Studios) and Andy Lawson (Debaser Studio) at pop-up studios in Warburton and Esperance this August.  The final compilation will be released in 2022 on digital streaming platforms, limited-edition CD package, and distributed by WAM to local and national radio, industry and the public.

WAM Regional Officer, Nigel Bird notes the magnitude of the upcoming recording project, stating “This project we’re about to embark on is enormous. It will take us on a 4000 kilometre journey recording artists that live between the Great Victoria and Gibson Deserts, and others who are between Esperance and the Great Australian Bight – all in the one region!”

Since commencing the state-wide regional recording series in 2006, WAM have showcased 140 original artists, with songs garnering airplay and rotation on national ABC networks, including ABC Local, Double J, Triple J and across community radio in all states and territories. Many compilation tracks have featured in local television and film, tourism campaigns, with multiple artists selected for festival and showcase opportunities including Bigsound, Perth International Arts Festival and Nannup Music Festival.

Applications to take part in the project are now open to original songwriters, artists and acts/bands based in the featured Goldfields/Esperance region areas. We’re calling on applicants of any experience level, age, and musical genre. Online applications can be submitted via the WAM website and the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/69HTMTG, or a hard copy form can be provided by contacting the WAM office on (08) 6156 1234.
