A state-of-the-art project that could revolutionise public lighting, a small business with a portfolio that includes the iconic Sydney Opera House, and a titan of the lighting industry are among the winners at the lighting industry’s night of nights.

The Lighting Council Australia (LCA) saw members and industry figures from across Australia flock to the Sheraton in Sydney for the 2024 National Awards for Excellence in Lighting. Winners were selected from across 10 categories and illuminated the cutting-edge products and projects of the Australian lighting industry.

LCA CEO Malcolm Richards congratulated the winners and said that all nominees reflected the innovative work being undertaken.

“The Australian lighting industry is at the forefront of the innovative technology and products being developed and the 2024 award winners and nominees reflect that,” Mr Richards said.

“The awards cover areas ranging from sustainability, innovation projects, best small business and right through to individual awards that recognise true industry champions.

“I’m in awe at the technological savviness and cutting-edge innovation taking place in Australian lighting and it’s fair to say the entire industry shone brightly at this year’s award’s night.”

Vinci Energies’ Omexom Australia took home the Public/Street Lighting award for its transformative project that dims streetlights during off-peak times. The project has cut light pollution by more than 50 per cent and is likely to be replicated in other parts of Australia.

The Best Small Business Award went to DANSON Electronics who has racked up an impressive list of projects, which include illuminating iconic landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House, Luna Park, RAAF Tindal and several prestigious universities.

Titan of the lighting industry Tony Todaro was recognized for his decades’ long contribution by being bestowed with the prestigious Life Achievement Award. Since purchasing Clevertronics in 2001, Mr Todaro has turned it into one of the world’s leading companies of Emergency Lighting. He has also served on the LCA board since 2007 and been Chair for the past eight years.
