It’s Show Time!
Happy New Year everyone! Sorry I haven’t written sooner. January happened faster than I expected. I got married (finally, after four reschedules), I premiered my new live show “An Inaccurate History of Electronic Dance Music” and I got my booster shot. That’s a lot. I hope that you’ve all stayed happy and healthy and if you’ve copped the virus, I hope you have recovered and are feeling more optimistic about our futures. So now that the year is well and truly underway, I’ve got plans to share!
So without further ado…
Listen: Good news! My latest EP Depths is now available across streaming platforms. If you enjoy streaming my music, please consider supporting the work by buying it over on Bandcamp. Today only, all revenue from purchases made on Bandcamp go direct to the artist.
You may have heard that the likes of Neil Young and Joni Mitchell have pulled their catalogue from Spotify over the Joe Rogan/COVID-19 debate. My take on this is that all streaming services are based on corrupt business models that favour the platform/record labels at the expense of artists. Cancelling Spotify and heading over to Tidal for example does nothing to change this. Therefore, I won’t be pulling my music from Spotify, but I will continue to support our Musicians Union in their efforts to lobby for legislative change to streaming.
XANI Shows: It’s time to get back up on stage. I haven’t been able to play regularly for the past two years, so it’s important that I do as many shows as I can to build back up stamina. I have a bunch of local live gigs coming up including a second performance of “An Inaccurate History of Electronic Dance Music” happening in Upwey at Burrinja On The Lawn on Saturday 26th February and a couple of solo shows at The Union Hotel and the Queen Victoria Night Market. Regional and interstate shows will be back on in the second half of this year.
Recording: 2022 marks the creation of a brand new album called “An Inaccurate History of Electronic Music”. I am back in my home studio recording layers of strings inspired by disco, trance and acid house to put on my new album due for release late this year/early next year. Between now and then I will be releasing new singles, an online concert series, new artwork, photos, merch and more. Stay tuned for how you can be involved in my next e-newsletter.
Guest Artist Shows: February is all about collaboration! I will be a guest performer with ambient duo Beyond the Lake on Wednesday 9th February and also with electronic meditative artist Tom Barton on Saturday 12th January.
That’s all from me for this month. But with things starting to pick up, I’ll be back on my feet playing and sharing music with you soon. To all my regional, interstate and international friends, I will be back online to play for you shortly.
Love Xani xx
