Dear Friends,
We hope you are all staying safe and well !
JMQ Jazz misses you all, but due to the pandemic it looks like entertainment as we know it will not be happening for awhile. Early on, when fewer than 10 could gather, the band got together for a couple of socially distanced sessions – just to have a chance to warm up. The attached clip of John Montesante Quintet with ‘East of The Sun’ is from that experience. We have not yet had a chance to regroup, but look forward to doing so again in the not too distant future.
Some of you may know that from 1982-2009 I also led a big band called Cafe Society Orchestra. At one of our live gigs, a musician brought a tape recorder along and we recently found those tracks. It’s not a perfect recording of That Old Black Magic, but thought you might find it of interest, given the paucity of gigs just now.
Unfortunately, our 13 piece Soul Band, Grand WaZoo – Kings of Soul has not been able to get together since March 7th, 2020 and has had numerous shows cancelled due to Covid. One of the clubs the band plays at, Bird’s Basement, is going to Live Stream one of the band’s pre-Covid concerts this Saturday, OCT 3, at 7.45pm. This may not be your bag, but the band does comprise some of the Jazz artists you know, including Mat Jodrell (trumpet), Jim Glasson (sax) and Samantha Morley (vocals), with 10 others. If you are interested and acquire a ticket, you may enjoy this entertaining 2 x set concert on a Computer, Phone, Device or Smart TV in the comfort of your own home … For One Night Only! Tickets are just $15 and the booking link is: https://liveatbirds.com/show/2065
We’d love you to participate, so the musicians know they are not forgotten.
Either way, stay safe & well everyone, and we shall stay in touch.
Warm wishes
John et al
