  • YEA technology integrates software and hardware to support all-scenario needs of buses
  • Launch coincides with the debut of Yutong’s E7S electric bus
  • Company introduces its first Australian-manufactured E12 battery electric chassis
  • Yutong announces Global Carbon Free Forest initiative pledging to plant a tree for every bus sold

Yutong, a global leading manufacturer of buses and coaches, today announced the introduction of its most advanced electric technology, YEA to the APAC market at the National Bus & Coach Show Expo 2024 and company’s YEA Green Exploration Journey event. This event, centred on the theme, “Think Eco, Move Green”, highlights Yutong’s commitment to green travel across the globe.

YEA, short for Yutong Electric Architecture, is the first electric vehicle (EV)-specific platform in the commercial vehicle (CV) industry that seamlessly integrates software and hardware to meet all-scenario needs of buses. At the core of this technology are the C architecture and YOS, both independently developed by Yutong. The C architecture is a cross-domain integration structure, while YOS is the first in-vehicle operating system specifically designed for commercial vehicles. Together, they enable the platform to deliver substantial improvements in environmental sustainability, economic efficiency, vehicle performance and safety by integrating advanced electric drive systems, intelligent management and cutting-edge charging solutions. Overall, setting a new industry standard for urban public transport, catering to the unique needs of various market segments.

Yutong’s YEA technology has already demonstrated its impact on the global stage, notably during major international sporting events in Paris in 2024, where it provided green and efficient transportation for spectators and athletes, aligning with the vision of a “Green Paris.” With a strong commitment to sustainability, Yutong is well-positioned to support Brisbane 2032, furthering its mission to revolutionise urban public transport.

At the launch of Yutong’s YEA Green Exploration Journey in Brisbane, Kent Chang, Yutong Asia-Pacific CEO and Vice President of the Asia-Pacific Executive Committee (APC) commented on Yutong’s presence in the Asia-Pacific region:

“The Asia–Pacific region serves as a cornerstone of global development stability, and a hub for cooperation. At Yutong we not only export new energy buses but also actively engage in local collaborations with several countries and regions, leveraging our technological and industrial chain advantages.

He continued, “This strategic shift from “product output” to “technology output” is driving the advancement of electric commercial vehicles. YEA technology will undoubtedly help the region achieve goals and promote green transformation of local transportation systems.”

Yutong’s YEA platform directly addresses key challenges faced by the commercial vehicle industry, such as insufficient range, low operational efficiency, inadequate power, low uptime, poor operational stability, limited experience in new energy vehicle operations, and the higher total cost of ownership compared to traditional fuel vehicles.

The platform’s key features are backed by extensive data from vehicle sales, ensuring traceability and data-driven support for its performance:

  • More Commercially Viable: Offers a range that is over 10% longer than competitors and a 20% reduction in operating costs, making it an efficient and cost-effective solution
  • More Durable: Ensures stable, safe, and reliable operation with uptime reaching up to 99%, and a battery lifespan of up to 1.5 million kilometres, significantly enhancing the longevity of the vehicle
  • More User-Friendly: Provides intelligent operation, empowering management with 24/7 reliability and peace of mind

Yutong also showcased the 2024 E7S bus at the National Bus & Coach Show Expo 2024 and company’s YEA Green Exploration Journey event. The micro-circulation battery electric bus E7S, released in Europe and the Middle East and now available in Asia-Pacific, is specifically designed for urban feeder routes, providing an innovative solution for metropolitan operators. Its compact size and exceptional manoeuvrability make it ideal for navigating narrow city streets and congested areas. The E7S accommodates up to 23 passengers with a dedicated wheelchair area. Safety is enhanced by an independent suspension system offering collision protection, complemented by IP68 and IP6K9K ratings for additional reliability. Inspired by a Red Dot Award-winning concept, the E7S’s space-capsule design positions it as a contemporary symbol of urban identity.

Furthermore, Yutong is actively collaborating with partners in Australia to advance the development of new energy buses. Recently, the first E12 pure electric chassis prototype rolled off the production line. The complete vehicle, developed in partnership with a renowned Australian body builder, was also presented at the National Bus & Coach Show Expo 2024 and company’s YEA Green Exploration Journey event.

To date, Yutong has delivered over 190,000 new energy commercial vehicles, leading global sales in this category. These buses have collectively travelled 44 billion kilometres, reducing fuel consumption by 9.2 billion litres and cutting carbon emissions by approximately 27.24 million tons—the equivalent of planting 140,000 hectares of forest, nearly the size of 2,000 Brisbane CBDs. In a special announcement at Tuesday’s event, Yutong announced its Global Carbon Free Forest initiative, pledging to plant a tree for every vehicle sold. This effort is intended to ensure long-term scalability and support global environmental protection efforts.

“Yutong Asia-Pacific has proudly provided premium and reliable green solutions to over 300 customers, delivering substantial economic and social benefits,” said Chang. “Through our YEA Green Exploration Journey, we aim to accelerate the realisation of a ‘zero carbon emission’ future. Together with our partners in the Asia-Pacific region, we are committed to advancing a greener future, driving economic prosperity and fostering sustainable development across the region.”

Yutong YEA technology is as an option for electric buses from today, alongside the company’s E7S electric bus.
