Langhorn Creek 2012
$59.99
The Iron Duke is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon from the from the best parcels from the 2012 harvest. This wine is produced in small quantities, so if you are serious about good cabernet Sauvignon grab some while it is sill on the shelves and tuck it away for five years and start drinking it from 2020. This wine got me to stand to attention and take note from the first sip.
Why, because I love Cabernet Sauvignon and when I taste a good one like this, I just don’t know why I don’t drink more of this stuff as Cabernet Sauvignon is the king of the red grape varieties and was my drink of choice when I first started drinking red wine.
I found this wine to taste of Cabernet Sauvignon as I remembered it to be. Soft on entry with robust dark fruit building mid plate filling he mouth with fine grained tannins lingering and hints of French oak leading to a almost watery Finish (texture) that I believe to be the result of old vines and good wine making. Even at this early stage a dark stain was beginning to form on the inside of the bottle this will over time form a crust a most desirable sight as this insures a long life for the wine in the bottle if you can wait that long. I can not understand why I don’t drink more Cabernet Sauvignon these days its such a under ratted variety (not so trendy).
Do yourself a favour like every thing $59.99 sounds expensive but try a bottle with three friends, I think this full flavoured mid weight wine will appeal to a lot wine drinkers out there.
We pay $59.99 for a bottle of Pinot Noir and don’t blink an eye so next time you want to spoil yourself give this Cabernet Sauvignon a go with a wood smoked duck and Asian greens pizza. It worked incredibly well and remember to budget in an extra $29.00 for the Pizza plus the wine divided by four people = $22.50 each a nice cheep start to Saturday night.
