South East Water’s annual Community Grants program is now open, with grants of up to $10,000 available to help local groups make community projects possible.

Now in its fifth year, the program has granted over $320,000 to 66 community groups across Melbourne’s south-east, helping to make local communities better places to live.

South East Water Managing Director, Lara Olsen said the organisation was excited to offer its Community Grants program again in 2024.

“Last year we were thrilled to support 16 community groups with a range of community and environmental projects, from emergency food relief and crisis essentials for children entering out-of-home care, to rainwater tanks and recycled water systems, and a cultural meeting place for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

“If your community group is within our service area and needs support for a project, I encourage you to apply now for a 2024 Community Grant,” Ms Olsen said.

Applications are now open for eligible community groups across the South East Water service area for projects that:

  • help people learn about water and how to use it in the best way possible
  • support vulnerable community members
  • make our environment healthier
  • help people be more active and connected.

Applications open 4 March and close 5pm, Friday 12 April.

Chelsea Community Support Services used its South East Water community grant to provide winter warmer care packs to help those struggling to pay rising energy bills stay warm and well during winter. The winter warmer care packs included an electric throw blanket, woollen socks, a pull-over gown, soup and a hot water bottle.

Quotes attributable to Emerald Bourne, Chelsea Community Support Services
“Our winter water care packs were delivered to 60 households in need, providing support to our elderly community, people living alone or those needing help to pay essential bills. Many recipients reported using less heating during winter and they reduced their bill stress. Thanks South East Water, your community grant helped bring warmth and comfort to local community members in need.”
