Here is Everything You Need to Know About Taking Care of Your Hands
Since hands are known to do most of the chores, it is essential to take care of them to make sure your hands remain smooth, soft, and moisturized. The skin at the back of our hands is fragile and has a minimal adipose layer. So this makes the hands prone to aging.
External factors such as sun, cold, heat, and water can bring damage to the skin on your hands, disrupting the natural protective layer on the skin. Discussed below are tips for hand care.
- Moisturize your hands.
It would be best to use a good quality moisturizer for your hands after thoroughly washing your hands. Moisturize your hands using the best hand cream at least three times a week. In the summer, you are advised to use a light and non-greasy moisturizer while you can use a heavy moisturizer in the winter because winters make your hands drier than in the summer.
- Wash hands frequently.
When you are washing your hands, it is necessary to use lukewarm water because hot or very cold water tends to damage the skin around your hands. Again, wash your hands using a hand-friendly hand wash rather than using your regular dish soap.
- Scrub hands.
Make sure you scrubbed your hands at least once every week. You are advised to use a good exfoliating hand scrub that gets rid of dead skin on your hands.
You could make your hand scrub at home if you have no time to get one. You could take a teaspoon of fine sugar, mix with some olive oil and lime juice. You can make the scrub exempting the olive oil.
- Pamper your hands.
It is essential to get your hands manicured at least once every month because, during a manicure, your hands get cleaned, exfoliated, and massaged. Manicure ensures thorough hand nourishment, ensuring healthy skin around the hands.
- Massage.
When you apply your moisturizer at night, it is good to massage your hands for at least five minutes to ensure your moisturizer soaks in your skin. For rough hands, you could mix your moisturizer with Vaseline to ensure the hands remain smooth and protected throughout the night.
- Protect your hands and cuticles.
When you are washing utensils, gardening, or carrying out your day to day chores, it is essential to protect your hands from grease and dirt. In this case, you could use rubber hand gloves, and this makes sure your hands are fully protected.
For cuticles, you can use quality cuticle cream or some quality oil. This is to make sure your cuticles are protected from drying out and roughing. Here you could also look for an at-home alternative. You can use glycerin on your hands for at last twice a week every night.
Wash off the glycerin from your hands in the morning using lukewarm water. Your hands will become softer. When cutting cuticles from your hands, it is advised that you use clippers rather than scissors. This is because clippers cause some tears on the nail that could lead to nail splitting later on.
- File, trim and paint your nails.
When you file your nails, make sure to file them in one direction rather than in a seesaw action. A sea-saw tends to separate the layers of the nail. If water gets into these layers, then it could make the nails start peeling off. Trim your nails at least once every two weeks or as often as required.
When painting your nails, you should use a base coat on your nails. Using a base-coat ensures your nails are protected from the polish making sure that your natural nails don’t get stained. The base coat also ensures your nail polish lasts even longer.
We often use our hands to show affection to the ones that we love, including cuddling our children. We also put our hands through daily chores and other complex hand activities.
Our hands are very vital; therefore should be well cared for.
