Listen To Older Voices : Mink Vanderslik – Part 1Welcome to Listen To Older Voices,
a program produced by Rob Greaves for Uniting Melba and podcast
through the Toorak Times and Tagg.
Listen To Older Voices presents the stories, views and opinions of our older citizens. It is predominantly in a life & times format, with interviewees reflecting upon their lives from earliest memories. An underlying principle of the program is to promote the concept of positive ageing, reinforcing the principle that older people have & continue to make a valuable contribution to both their local & wider community.

This is a Golden Moments Repeat program
The story of Mink Vanderslik is a story told in 3-parts. Mink was 75 years of age when interviewed in August of 2009. Mink commences her story recalling in graphic detail of what life was like from the perspective of a young girl in Holland under German occupation during WWII. Living in her family home with the invading Germans occupying parts of the family house, life was always on the edge because her father was a major player in the local underground.

Her tales might have come straight from a Robert Ludlum novel except they are all factual. Among her many stories is one about how the family managed to keep Jewish refugees safe, and how, despite the ugliness of the way, she did witness kindness by some German soldiers.
