This program was originally aired in 2010 and features the three-part story of Baby Boomer, Nick Ordinans.
When interviewed Nick was sixty-years of age. His story starts in Staffordshire England, where Nick was born and bought up on the families pig farm, where his affinity with animals began.
At the age of 9 Nick’s parents separated and as a result his father bought Nick up. We learn of his fathers German-Polish background and in this we find another fascinating story within Nick’s fascinating story.
The young Nick moves from the country to the city. Here Nick found the smog so bad he was forced to wear a scarf over his mouth in order to breathe. At times the smog was so thick Nick tells, that he could only see a few meters ahead and this discomfort was compounded by the healthy environment he was bought up in.
School wasn’t a terrific experience for young Nick but even so, he was successful in winning a scholarship. This was to a school that was mainly populated with children of the very well off, which certainly was not Nick’s background. However Nick thrives in the academic atmosphere and loving economics, on leaving school he joins Lloyds bank.
However this didn’t work for him and after a couple of years he left to become a bus conductor.
This was only a temporary job before his love for animals comes to the forefront of his thinking and he becomes a Zoo Keeper and it is here, that his story in so many ways really begins.
