Welcome to Listen To Older Voices, a program produced by Rob Greaves for Wesley Mission Victoria and podcast through the Toorak Times.

Listen To Older Voices presents the stories, views and opinions of our older citizens. It is predominantly in a life & times format, with interviewees reflecting upon their lives from earliest memories. An underlying principal of the program is to promote the concept of positive ageing, reinforcing the principle that older people have & continue to make a valuable contribution to both their local & wider community.

Phil circa 1971

In Part 1 we followed the development of Phil’s musical career, of which a significant part of his move into becoming a professional musician was through him joining Tony Worsley and the Blue Jays.

In this weeks story, we learn about both the circumstances and the chutzpah that led him to joining Chain and how this in turn led to the forming of a life-long friendship with legendary singer, Matt Taylor. Through Phil’s recollections we learn of the various line-ups of Chain and as we listen we share in some excellent and previously untold history & stories of both Chain and the Australian music industry.

Finally, we learn of the circumstances that finally led to Phil and Chain parting ways and why Phil moved back to relative obscurity to Tasmania, where he was born.
