Welcome to Listen To Older Voices, a program produced by Rob Greaves and podcast through the Toorak Times and Tagg” style=”3d” color=”orange”][/vc_cta][/vc_column][/vc_row]This is part 1 of a 2-part repeat Golden moment program, from our Vault of Treasured Memories, featuring the story of the then 87-year old Ron Caddy.
Ron takes us in a journey from his earliest memories through until the time of the interview in July 2007.
Ron’s mother died when he was young and that affected his father deeply.
His father was a baker and although he was bought up in the years of the Great Depression, the family didn’t go without. But not having a parent around on a regular basis meant that the young Ron and his brothers got up to a lot of mischief.
Ron wasn’t a great student but enjoyed his school experience. His first paying job was running messages for a lady’s boutique. But looking for a career Ron enlisted in the RAAF ending up as a radio operator in 3 Squadron.
His story is very interesting, particularly when he relates that part that relates to his volunteering to go to Japan as part of the allied occupation force at wars end.
These are great stories from a great character.
